Yes, Umbrella has/was/is still the song of the summer. Usually after hearing a hit summer song over and over again I would rather stick BBQ skewers in my ears that hear it again (I am STILL haunted by the thought of the summer jam of '97, I Just Wanna Fly.)
But Umbrella is different. I STILL love it. I love everything about it. Sometimes after a particularly harrowing day, I listen to Umbrella and everything is A-OK again.
As much as I would like to deny my affection for Mandy Moore, I have admit, the girl is endlessly interesting to me.
I am inexplicably drawn to see every one of her awful/brilliant movie flops:
I am awed by her ability to whisper-heavily-breathe her entire performance of the song I Wanna Be With You from the film CLASSIC, Center Stage:
But the genesis of my love for her has to be the incredibly touching spoken-word interlude on her premier single, Candy:
Your love's as sweet as candy.
I'll be forever yours.
Love always, Mandy~

Brilliant, Mandy, brilliant.
